Flat roofs are very durable, efficient, and cost less than other types of roofing. Our clients can always be sure that our team will give them effective results that will last. Get the best while paying less.

Economical and Stylish Options For Your Business

Flat roofs are the most economical to build, compared to other roofing types. Height for height, they allow more air-conditioned living space than pitched roofs. They allow more usable space for solar panels; passive lighting solutions, such as skylights and tubes; and air conditioning components. They are also great for extra outdoor living spaces, gardening, or even greenhouses. And maybe, you just love that sleek modern look. There are three common types of commercial flat roofing systems commonly installed:

  • Built-Up Roof (BUR)

  • Modified Bitumen Membranes

  • Single-Ply Membranes, as in TPO, PVC, and EPDM

Built-Up Roof (BUR)

A built-up roofing system (BUR) system uses multiple layers of natural or synthetic roofing felt, alternated with hot-applied layers of tar or asphalt. The top layer is usually a layer of hot asphalt topped with gravel. The gravel helps reflect the sun and protects the layers below. The more layers added, the more durable the roof. This also makes it heavier. In general, it is the heaviest solution, so the roofing structure needs to be strong.

Modified Bitumen Membranes

Typical modified bitumen roof systems use overlapping, single, or double-ply asphalt-based sheets, rolled out and either heat-applied or self-adhering. Modified bitumen is a replacement for the hot sticky tar of the BUR method.

Single-Ply Membranes: TPO, PVC, and EPDM

Single-ply membrane systems use flexible, waterproof sheets made from synthetic materials. Some of the most popular types of single-ply membrane roofs are TPO (thermoplastic olefin), PVC (polyvinyl chloride), and EPDM (ethylene propylene diene M-class rubber). While TPO and PVC are light and reflective, EPDM is dark and will attract heat.

Examining the Advantages of a Durable Flat Roof

Money-saving

When you buy a roofing system, durability should be an essential factor in your decision. Material costs drive the price of a roofing system, but before you recoil from the cost, look at what the material will do over time. Usually, a substantial up-front investment will reduce costs going forward and provide peace of mind for a building owner.

Less Disruption

In a production environment, work stoppages kill momentum and affect employee output. Time is money. Less time spent on repairs and maintenance will increase your company’s profits by maximizing the time your employees spend generating products.
